HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF PALM BEACH COUNTY APPOINTS
FIVE COMMUNITY LEADERS TO ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
PALM BEACH, Fla. (June, 2003)--- The Historical Society
of Palm Beach County recently appointed five community leaders
and advocates of preserving local history to its Board of
Directors. Vera Farrington, president of EPOCH (Expanding
and Preserving Our Cultural Heritage) and the S.P. Spady
House Museum in Delray Beach; Kimberly Mitchell, West Palm
Beach City Commissioner; the Honorable Marvin Mounts, Jr.,
retired Palm Beach County Circuit Judge; Jonathan Satter,
principal and co-founder of Compass Realty Advisors; and
Steven Stolman, president of Steven Stolman, Ltd. will each
serve a three-year term on the board. The appointments demonstrate
the Historical Society’s commitment to strengthen
and diversify its leadership and base of support in order
to represent the interests of every community in Palm Beach
County.
“The Historical Society is in the midst
of the most exciting period in its 66-year history, said
Harvey E. Oyer, III, president of the Historical Society
of Palm Beach County. “We are working toward the goal
of opening a county-wide public history museum in the to-be-restored
1916 Palm Beach County courthouse. The society is developing
a program that will share the rich, multicultural history
of Palm Beach County with the entire community, with a special
emphasis on children. Along with our current board of directors,
officers, advisory committee and staff, these newly appointed
board members will play an integral role in building a quality
educational facility that will become one of the cultural
cornerstones of Palm Beach County.”
As the founder and president of EPOCH and
the S.P. Spady House Museum, Vera Farrington is committed
to educating the public about the contributing role African-Americans
played in shaping the history of Delray Beach. A retired
school teacher, Farrington is also a member of the Morikami
Museum, the Delray Beach Historical Society and Progress
Citizens. She was named an African-American Achiever for
Arts & Culture in 2003.
West Palm Beach District 3 City Commissioner,
Kimberly Mitchell is a Vice President with Mesirow Financial
and Vice President of Pinsky Mitchell Partners, a public
relations and governmental affairs firm. The daughter of
Apollo XVI astronaut Edgar Mitchell and a native Palm Beach
County resident, Mitchell is a member of the Florida Education
Practices Commission and serves as a board member of Mission
Sandbox, the Armory Arts Center and the Urban League.
The Honorable Judge Marvin U. Mounts Jr.,
has been immersed in Palm Beach County’s judicial
history for over three decades, having served as County
Solicitor from 1964 to 1972 and as a 15th Judicial Circuit
Court judge for 30 years. He is an active member of the
Chamber of Commerce of Royal Palm Beach and Wellington and
an active supporter of the Mounts Botanical Garden in West
Palm Beach, which is named in honor of his father.
Jonathan Satter is a leader in Palm Beach
County’s real estate and finance sector, serving as
principal and co-founder of Compass Realty Advisors in West
Palm Beach. Satter is a member of the Economic Council of
Palm Beach County and the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm
Beaches, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Better
Business Bureau of South Florida.
Steven Stolman is a renowned fashion designer
with his own private-label collections sold at his stores
in Southampton, NY and Palm Beach, Fla. He is actively involved
in a variety of philanthropic organizations that promote
culture and the arts including the Young Friends of the
Norton Museum of Art. Additionally, he serves as vice-chair
for the Southhampton Hospitality Summer Party, and is a
member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
