PHILANTHROPISTS SYDELLE AND ARTHUR MEYER AND WACHOVIA BANK FUND HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S FOURTH GRADE HISTORY PROGRAM

PALM BEACH, Fla. (July 21, 2004)--- Palm Beach philanthropists Sydelle and Arthur Meyer and Wachovia Bank have pledged to sustain an innovative new history education curriculum, developed by the Historical Society of Palm Beach County and the School District, in all Palm Beach County fourth grade classrooms for the 2004-2005 school year. Thanks to their generous contributions, the program will continue to provide students with an in-depth look at the diverse history of Florida and Palm Beach County , at no cost to the schools, parents and the public.

The program, which features a text booklet, a teacher resource guide developed by the school district and a video produced by WPBF Channel 25 and narrated by anchors, Tiffany Kenney and Kristen Hoke, is a much-needed supplement to the current fourth grade social studies curriculum in Palm Beach County . It was launched last year and has been praised for its ability to engage and entertain students, be implemented easily into any curriculum and provide valuable lessons about our collective past. Wachovia co-funded the program in its first year.

Extremely committed to supporting culture and education in our local community, Mrs. Meyer serves on the Board of Directors for the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, the Community Chest, the United Way , the Kravis Center , Ballet Florida , the South Florida Science Museum and the School of the Arts Foundation. She is National Vice-President of the American Jewish Congress as well as Chairman of the United Jewish Appeal Campaign of Palm Beach. Meyer and her husband, Arthur, are founders and benefactors of Albert Einstein Medical School in New York and the builders of the Arthur I. Meyer Academy day school in West Palm Beach . They have also donated the Meyer Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach to the city and the Meyer Auditorium to the Dreyfoos School of the Arts. They are founders of the Jewish Community Center of West Palm Beach.

Additional funding for this program has been provided by The Citicorp Foundation/Smith-Barney and The Palm Beach Post.
