YOUNG FRIENDS SOIRÈE OFFERS PEEK AT MOST CHARMING ANTIQUES DISTRICT ON EASTERN SEABOARD
PALM BEACH, Fla. (February 21, 2006)--- The Young Friends of the Historical Society welcomed a crowd of more than 1,200 its 11th Annual Evening on Antique Row, the tony street party held within the nationally acclaimed antiques district of West Palm Beach. The annual benefit for the Historical Society and the Antique Row Association was chaired by Janet Murphy, Nicole Atkinson, Grier Pressly and Tracy Coffey, president of the Antique Row Association. The event was followed by an exclusive “After-Party” at chic Hotel Biba in West Palm Beach, where Young Friends and Evening on Antique Row committee members continued the revelry late into the night.
Tucked between some of West Palm Beach’s most interesting and historic neighborhoods and its trendy downtown, West Palm Beach’s Antique Row on Dixie Highway is one of the most charming antiques districts on the east coast. Once a year, the district comes to life at night with live entertainment, hors doeuvres, horse and carriage rides and more, allowing visitors to explore the area’s 50 unique shops, each offering fine collections of 17th to 20th century antiques, decorative arts, period furnishings and fine art. This year’s event was better than ever due to the closure of Dixie Highway to vehicular traffic, which allowed the event to expand along the full length of the district. Musical groups like the South Florida Gay Men’s Chorus provided the outdoor entertainment, and the popular raffle drawing gave visitors the chance to win items such as a two-night stay at the Breakers Hotel and a $1,000 shopping spree on Antique Row. Guests to the event also had the opportunity to purchase “Abstract Flowers,” an acrylic on canvas painting by the famed American pop artist, Peter Max, who donated the original work of art to help raise funds for both the Antique Row Association and the Historical Society.
The 11th Annual Evening on Antique Row was sponsored by Ram Development, Peter Max, Anderson & Carr, Inc., Fidelity Federal Bank & Trust, Illustrated Properties, South Ocean Builders, Inc., Palm Beach Cottages & Gardens and The Palm Beach Post.
