ACCLAIMED AUTHOR ELMORE LEONARD COMES TO WEST PALM
BEACH TO DISCUSS HIS NOVELS AND MOVIES
PALM BEACH, Fla. (December, 2003)--- The Historical
Society of Palm Beach County and the Palm Beach County Cultural
Council will co-host a lecture by legendary novelist, Elmore
Leonard, who will discuss his latest crime masterpiece,
Mr. Paradise (William Morrow; on sale January 13,
2004), along with the movies made from his novels and his
writing life. The lecture and book signing, underwritten
by Bank of America and CityPlace, will be held on Jan. 14
at the Harriet Theater in CityPlace from 4:00 p.m. –
5:00 p.m. This will be Leonard’s only Palm Beach County
appearance on his book tour, which includes five other appearances
around the nation. A private reception hosted by Bank of
America will follow.
Historical Society of Palm Beach County board
member and retired Palm Beach County Circuit Court Judge,
Marvin Mounts, led the effort to bring Leonard to the area.
He felt it was an opportunity for the public to gain a unique
perspective into the diverse history and culture of Florida,
the backdrop for many of Leonard’s best-selling novels.
Mounts is a long-time friend of the author and was the inspiration
for the famed judge, “Maximum Bob,” published
in 1991.
Leonard, a New Orleans native, has published
39 works of fiction over the last five decades. His work
has been the basis for over 20 feature films and television
series, including Get Shorty, Jackie Brown,
and Out of Sight. The movie based on his novel,
Big Bounce, is scheduled for release in late January
and stars Morgan Freeman and Owen Wilson.
Elmore Leonard’s appearance is part
of both the Historical Society’s lecture series and
the “Bank of America’s Books of America”
author series. Upcoming lectures for the Historical Society’s
series include Hank McCall with his discussion, “Captain
David McCampbell, U.S.N.,
The Navy’s Ace of Aces” and Dr.
William Kelso, with his presentation, “Jamestown Rediscovered!
The Buried Truth About America’s Birthplace.”
Upcoming “Bank of America’s Books of America”
lectures include Jon Meacham, author of Franklin and
Winston: An Intimate Portrait of an Epic Friendship
and Laurence Leamer, author of The Kennedy Women, The
Kennedy Men, and the soon-to-be released The Sons
of Camelot: The Fate of an American Dynasty.
